This is a new farm for us, and a new farm for husband and wife Ivan and Roseanne Batista. This is only their second harvest what a rare treat. The farm which is 24 hectares in size belonged to Roseanne’s father who used to grow corn and soy. The farm now has 10 of it’s 24 hectares planted with catuai and yellow catuai trees, approximately 40,000 of them.
This new start gave the opportunity for a fresh approach, Ivan and Roseanne invested in African Raised beds for drying, soil analyses, natural fertilizers and organic farming methods are used where possible. The result is clear, this is a stunning coffee! On the farm they have five permanent employees and during the main season they take on a further 30. This year (2019 harvest) all cherry was picked by hand because the rains came sporadically, resulting in trees flowering at different times. This lot is natural process, Ivan and Roseanne start the drying on raised beds before moving to patios or a mechanical dryer, the longest coffees will stay in the mechanical dryer is two days.
